About this work:
The Don Juan created by Zorilla, a strong-minded, incorrigibly rebellious enfant terrible, was extraordinarily popular during the Romantic age. Perhaps this is why Eduardo Arroyo, another iconoclast and rebel, found inspiration precisely in this famous play. The result is a cycle of 21 illustrations which expertly complement Zorilla's text. What is most notable about them is their bright colouring, the drama of the scenes they portray and the strong depiction of the characters, all with the expressive, original iconography which characterises Arroyo's unmistakable style. With this magnificent collector's edition of Don Juan Tenorio, Arroyo again displays his great sensitivity to the illustration of literary subjects. The colour etching that accompanies the book is similarly a small masterpiece which pays homage to the characters in the play by means of an image of extraordinary strength and huge narrative power.
